Hello,
Welcome summer, welcome all!
I am delighted to share my Creative Writes summer stories with you, about our Creative Writing Workshops.
One of the highlights was the first Creative Writes Words & Wine Creative Writing Workshop last week at a new location in Muswell Hill, North London, N10.
The atmosphere was relaxed and the group were guided through a series of fun, fast paced free flow writing exercises, some of which involved hats and Word Jars!
One of our regular Creative Writes participants, Anj Cairns, wrote a wonderful blog post about her experience at the Words & Wine Workshop:

Some of the other comments from participants included:
“Loved it! Please organise more.”
“What a wonderful evening – thanks so much Nichola Charalambou for organising this lovely event – I should love to come to the next one!”
“Well done, Nichola Charalambou! It was a well structured and interesting evening – I’m quite proud of one of my written pieces, too! Thank you for organising it, love what you do!”
“Fab night. Thanks to you and the team.”
I am incredibly excited to announce that Words & Wine Two will be on Thursday July 20th, 8-10.15pm at the same venue, a magical secret summer house in Muswell Hill, North London, N10. These workshops are not yet bookable on this website. If you wish to book or find out more, please email me: [email protected]
There are limited places and some are already booked, so please contact me as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. The focus is very much on writing in a fun, relaxed setting – which is aided by the wine and cheese! You do not need any previous creative writing experience to attend Words & Wine or any of the other Creative Writes Workshops.
In other news…
I am visiting a care home in Windsor throughout the Summer for a project with C&C (Central & Cecil). A Sense of Occasion is working towards a special celebration to mark International Day Of Older Persons on November 1st 2017. We have been talking to the residents about their memories of good times and celebrations in their lives and using carefully selected poems along this theme. It may be a memory of a Saturday night dance, of singsongs around the piano or the Queen’s Coronation in 1953. I have felt honoured to hear the stories which are treasured by the older people we are working with – some of which have a striking poignancy.
Try this…
Which stories do you hold dear? The occasion can be major or something smaller and more personal. Why is it important to you and what do you think has made it so memorable? Write ‘I Remember’ along this theme for ten minutes. Don’t think, just write!
June 2017 block of three Creative Writes workshops:
We covered a wide range of material in the three Wednesdays at our regular venue – North Bank/Muswell Hill Methodist Church, N10, including work from the Found Magazine http://foundmagazine.com/
The writers created story and character from ‘real life’ found notes!
Last weekend, I was invited to Hillcroft College in Surbiton to facilitate two creative writing workshops for women with dyspraxia and dyslexia during their Creativity Weekend. It’s a wonderful venue – a historic retreat. I was sent the following from a staff member:
“I really want to thank you for the workshop on Saturday – at the exhibition yesterday 3 of the students were happy to leave their notebooks open (on some straw bales under the marquee!) and we were bowled over by the imaginative, witty and carefully thought ideas!”
